ABDM Overview
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is India's national health data interoperability framework. Apps integrating with ABDM can access patient health records (with consent) via ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) numbers. This enables continuity of care across hospitals and clinics.
ABHA Integration
To integrate ABHA, register as a Health Information Provider (HIP) or Health Information User (HIU) with NHA. The ABDM sandbox provides APIs for ABHA creation, health record linking, and consent management. The integration process takes 4-8 weeks including NHA certification.
Telemedicine Features
Post-COVID, telemedicine adoption in India is permanent. Key features: video consultation (WebRTC), e-prescription generation, digital health records, pharmacy integration for medicine delivery, and lab test booking. Telemedicine apps must comply with the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020.
Data Privacy & Security
Healthcare apps handle sensitive personal health information (PHI). Implement end-to-end encryption, role-based access control, audit logs for all data access, and data localization (store on Indian servers). Follow DISHA (Digital Information Security in Healthcare Act) guidelines.
Market Opportunity
India's digital health market is projected to reach $21 billion by 2025. The combination of ABDM infrastructure, telemedicine penetration, and insurance digitization creates massive opportunities for healthcare app developers. Tier-2 and tier-3 cities are the fastest-growing segments.
